EA: Sony Executing Exceptionally Well, Microsoft Running into Challenges

October 22, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

It’s been a highly competitive summer for hardware, and that can only be a good thing for EA.

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau loves a good fight. The battle between Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One that’s been taking place over the summer has only raised the stock of both the consoles themselves and the industry as a whole, and as one of the biggest players in the software side of the industry, EA is happy to see such excitement about a recently stagnant business. The competition is healthy, but really, Gibeau sees Sony as the company that’s had a stronger performance up to this point.

“I think the Sony team has executed exceptionally well – and they did not execute particularly well on PS3, whereas last time around Microsoft executed perfectly,” he told Edge in a recent interview. “This time, Microsoft has run into some challenges, some leadership changes, but they’re a very resilient organization, and if you look at their counter punches on any setbacks, they’ve done a pretty good job of getting back on track.”

The many twists and turns that Microsoft has taken since the original announcement of the Xbox One has helped the company earn some good will with its audience, but it has been a bit of a struggle for a group that’s been on top throughout much of the current generation. However, this November will really come down to the games, and it looks as if both console manufactures have a strong launch lineup prepared for the millions of early adopters ready to buy some new hardware.
