You Can’t Use Your Real Name on Xbox One at Launch

October 16, 2013 by Yesika Reyes

The option to be identified using players’ real names won’t be available at launch.

A Microsoft representative told Kotaku today that the option to let players identify one another with their real names will not be available during launch.

The representative maintained that the option for players to use their real identities continue to be a part of their plans for the Xbox One. However, it was noted that Microsoft had to postpone it in favor of prioritizing unspecified features for day one.

The company previously announced that this feature would be available on Xbox Live when the console is released.

Both Microsoft and Sony have discussed plans on giving the players the option to be identified with their real names in addition to their Gamertags or PSN ID.  It is important to emphasize that it is not a requirement, but an option players can choose to opt in or out of.

While Microsoft will not be offering this feature during Xbox One’s launch, it is still unknown if Sony plans to roll out something similar when the PS4 comes out.
