David Hayter Announces His Latest Game: The Long Dark

October 15, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Hayter joins former Metal Gear Solid and Eternal Darkness co-star Jennifer Hale, as Hinterland’s Kickstarter winds down.

Announcing a new game today…

David Hayter teased a new game role almost a day ago, and has now confirmed that he is joining the voice cast of upcoming first person survival simulation game The Long Dark.

“@HinterlandGames: @DavidBHayter is joining the cast of The Long Dark! http://t.co/rafp3WfrDb” Here you go…

— David Hayter (@DavidBHayter) October 14, 2013

David Hayter, of course, is a long established voice actor in video games, most famous for essaying the role of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series. It would be criminal to not point out his extensive career outside of that franchise, including playing  the Legionnaires from Eternal Darkness, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Giant Robo. He was also a scriptwriter for X-Men, X-2, Watchmen, and The Scorpion King, and took the lead role in Guyver 2: Dark Hero.

Although Hinterland games did not confirm this, it seems likely that Hayter will take the lead role as William Mackenzie, a bush pilot who crash lands in the Northern Wild and faces the elements.

Hayter is joining Jennifer Hale, who has worked with him in Metal Gear Solid and Eternal Darkness and has an extensive body of work of her own. Her video game credits date back to 1994 with Quest for Glory IV and include the Metroid Prime, SOCOM, Soul Calibur, and KOTOR series. Her most prominent recent role is that of FemShep in the Mass Effect games. Hale’s role has also remained unconfirmed.

Of course, this should be no surprise as Hinterland’s Kickstarter is winding down at the time of this writing. The game is assured production, having reached $ 236,328 of its $ 200,000 goal, so all that awaits us is the actual making of the game.

The Long Dark is scheduled to release on PC (Windows, Linux and Mac) by October of next year. You can check out our interview with Hinterland Games' Raphael Van Lierop here.
