Review Roundup: Catherine: Full Body’s Exciting Puzzles, Mature Tone and Bizzare Story Will Leave First-Time Players Astonished

September 3, 2019 by Jordan Biazzo

R-liive the excitement!

Atlus has released their remastered cult classic title — Catherine: Full Body in the West and fans are freaking out!

If you have never played this game when it originally released back in 2011, this is finally your chance to do so. The newly remastered title gives players a redefined set of graphics, a ton of extra features, and much more. Known for its crazy love story and whacky platforming action, Catherine: Full Body quickly became a cult classic for a lot of gamers. And it seems the remastered title is doing pretty well!

Down below are some of the most respectable gaming sites in the industry, check out the highlights for their reviews on Atlus’ latest remastered title — Catherine: Full Body:

DualShockers 90

Atlus has released a great package for a title that probably didn’t get as much love as it should have back when it first launched. From the puzzles, stylistic choices, and storyline Catherine: Full Body holds up even while it’s closing in on its ninth anniversary. This is a unique game that’s riveting throughout, I recommend it for newcomers and returning players alike.

IGN Japan 85

Playing Catherine: Full Body reminded me how amazing the original Catherine was. The exciting puzzles and unique adventure gameplay come with a stylish, mature tone and extremely well-written dialogue. With a remixed music score and online multiplayer, Catherine: Full Body does somewhat enrich that original experience. However, the addition of a third heroine can easily be seen as a negative feature. Altogether, Catherine: Full Body is a great game because of the timeless classic it is based on, rather than because of the new features.

GameSpot 80

Rin’s presence still brings an intriguing new edge to Vincent’s crisis, and Full Body still tells a fascinating, personal tale. The nightmarish block puzzles are still weirdly intense and satisfying to surmount, and the Stray Sheep is still a wonderful bar to spend your nights in. Full Body does a great job in refining and refreshing the Persona studio’s fascinating foray into the social lives of adults, and Catherine continues to stand out as a game that feels both incredibly bizarre and authentically intimate.

Twinfinite 70

Full Body is still a very fun, enjoyable romp through Vincent’s romantic life, and it’s a great first-time experience for anyone in their late 20s to early 30s. That said, the game really didn’t need a brand new character to keep things feeling fresh; in fact, that only detracted from the original experience and somehow made it worse.

Polygon

Catherine: Full Body remains a bizarre, but enjoyable, adventure that asks a lot of questions about life without providing many answers. That’s fine; some of the best fiction lets the audience make up their own mind about what it all means. But the game itself seems to be stretching toward an ideal that it sometimes undercuts with its own writing and characterization, leaving an experience that mirrors Vincent himself: messy, uncomfortable, and always falling short of its potential.

Catherine: Full Body is now available in the West today, September 3rd. Are you excited for the remastered title? Let us know in the comments below!
