Xbox One Automatically Records How You Earn Achievements

October 7, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Each and every time a player unlocks an Achievement on Xbox One, that moment of gameplay is recorded.

We’re all pretty much familiar with the fact that the Xbox One can record up to five minutes of pure, unadulterated game footage. And really, that sounds like a solid feature for those looking to capture just a few moments of software brilliance within their hard drive. The concept of sharing big moments in a particular game is a major selling point for the coming generation of hardware, and new information coming out of EB Games Expo indicates that further recording will take place whenever an Achievement is unlocked.

YouTube user ChampChong had a chance to interview Xbox Australia product manager, Adam Pollington at this event with the intent of learning more about the sharing functionality of the box. During the talk, Pollington revealed some new information on game capturing.

“The DVR will automatically record any Achievements that take place,” he said. “So, whenever you unlock Gamerscore, it will automatically record how you did that so you can check it out later.”

It will also be possible for the Kinect to capture the player’s reaction after unlocking a particular Achievement, but really, that will be up to the developers to include in a particular game. Not all studios are going to be forced to make a product social.

Just because the Kinect is no longer required to make the Xbox One work, doesn’t mean that Microsoft isn’t trying to make it an appealing peripheral. Look to capture both gameplay and yourself on the Xbox One when it launches Nov. 22.
