Sony: PS4 and Vita Bundle ‘Becoming More Real by the Week’

October 1, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Sony UK chief won’t rule out the prospect of combining both systems.

Sony's Fergal Gara has told Official PlayStation Magazine UK that the prospect of a bundle package including a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita is "becoming more real by the week".

While the company has previously denied any plans to release such a bundle he said positive "consumer reaction and an upsurge in Vita sales" has raised the prospects that this will happen.

The Vita price drop announced at gamescom likely has something to do with Sony's changed opinion on the matter. Gara commented:

"Well a couple of things have evolved about since then. I think that clearly demonstrating what the two machines do when they come together was a big step and I think gamescom was a key moment for that.

"Seeing the consumer reaction and actually an upsurge in Vita sales immediately following that demo was very encouraging to see. So there is interest in the mechanic. Right now, as I sit here today, we're not producing a box that fits a PS4 and PS Vita in that one box. We we could probably change our mind in the morning and still have it ready for launch to be honest so it's not a big decision. It's not a hard thing to do."

"We're still in the planning phase so it's not a yes, its not a no," he said. "And the option is still there to pick up the two of them. We'll make it happen in the ways that are best for our retail partners really and we'll work with them. The concept is becoming more real by the week."

Last week, Gara said the Vita's gans have saved the device from being shelved and Sony is now "nowhere close to that decision."

The PlayStation 4 is set to be launched on November 15th in North America and on November 29th in Europe. Sony has been pushing the PS Vita's remote play function for PS4 games so such a bundle would make sense though as with everything, pricing would be key.
