Bypass Unlocks By Purchasing Gears 5 Characters

July 22, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Looks like you’ll still find microtransactions in Gears 5.

A lot is going on in the news lately when it comes to loot boxes in video games. This big push and government involvement in certain cases have left plenty of developers to stir away from these microtransactions in their video games. For instance, Gears 5 was one of those games confirmed to not have loot boxes, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be free from microtransactions. As it turns out, gamers who don’t want to work through the game to reach certain unlocks can get a jump simply by making some purchases.

Gears 5 is coming out in September and this month we’ve seen some gameplay footage for their Escalation game mode to even the Bootcamp training grounds for newcomers to the series. At any rate, one thing that has been confirmed recently was that gamers can make some purchases with real money to get the content they want right away. In a recent interview with GameSpot, multiplayer game director Ryan Cleven and esports creative manager Rose Gunson spoke about the content players can purchase with money.

It’s been stated in the past, but it’s worth bringing up again. When Gears 5 releases, it won’t have loot boxes nor will it have a season pass. Instead, everything added to the game like maps will be free for all players. Likewise, gamers can unlock in-game items simply by playing and reaching certain goals, but for those that want something like a specific character hero unlock for multiplayer then they will have the option to spend real money. That goes for all cosmetic items in-game as players won’t have to rely on any randomized generator to spit out an item. This will likely be welcoming news to those that purely against the loot box microtransactions.

With all that said, Gears 5 is set to launch this year. Those who are looking to get a copy can do so on September 10, 2019, for the Xbox One and PC platforms.
