Doom: Annihilation Movie Confirmed For October 1st Release

July 16, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

A Doom film based on the latest reboot.

Doom has been around for ages but it recently had a resurgence with fans around the world thanks to the recent reboot. Now Doom is back in full force with gamers taking on the role of Doom Guy, as he embarks on a mission to save humanity and slaughter any demon that comes in his way. So far only one video game since the reboot is out in the market, but its sequel, Doom Eternal is coming out shortly within this year. With that said, if you’re looking for even more Doom action then you may want to look at Doom: Annihilation, an upcoming film adaptation that is based off the latest reboot. Now normally movie adaptations are not very fondly looked upon from fans of the original video game source material, but that hasn’t stopped production teams from making attempts at delivering something that would appease fans and newcomers to the franchise alike.

It wouldn’t be surprising if this film went under the radar for you. Doom: Annihilation is not getting the big screen debut but instead will receive a direct-to-video release. Recently, it was unveiled that the movie would be launching on October 1, 2019, so we only have a few months to wait before it hits store shelves and digital marketplaces.

So far, we know that the Doom film follows the story of scientists who have found a portal that allows teleportation throughout the universe. If you’re a fan of the games then you know that this leads to the portal opening a rift from hell and causes a swarm of demons to escape. Now humanity is at risk of total destruction.

This film was written and directed by Tony Giglio, who had previously worked on Resident Evil: Afterlife and S.W.A.T.: Under Siege. You can take a look at the trailer for the upcoming film within the video embedded above.

Of course, with that said, you also have Doom Eternal to look forward in playing this year. Doom Eternal will launch a little over a month later on November 22, 2019, for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia platforms.
