Killzone Shadow Fall DLC Will Not Split Up Fans, Says Guerrilla Games

September 25, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Producer Poria Torkan clears up the air on previous DLC issues.

Guerilla Games Producer Poria Torkan has cleared up on the Playstation Blog that the upcoming multiplayer expansion packs for Killzone Shadow Fall will not split up the fan base between people who paid and have not paid for said packs.

This clarification has apparently been edited into the blog post for the Killzone Shadow Fall Season Pass post on the Playstation Blog from yesterday. NeoGAF has curated a comment on the post by Poria, in response to other comments crying foul about the multiplayer expansion packs.

OK, so here’s how this works. All the ten announced multiplayer maps we already know about and that will come with the game at launch are guaranteed to be free. In addition to that, there will be multiplayer expansion packs that fans will have to pay for. However, these paid expansions packs will not divide the community. Players who did not purchase the packs will have additional options, with the implication being that they will still be able to play with those who do not purchase the packs.

Compared to the day before, the blog post now makes it clear that the two announced expansion packs are for cooperative play, and they have two more expansion packs they are temporarily keeping under wraps.

For casual observers who may not know what the fuss is all about, in previous incarnations in the Killzone series, the fans did get split up between those who paid for multiplayer maps, and those who were left out in the cold. Guerrilla Games are careful in their wording here, but it remains to be seen if fans who were burned before will bite again.
