Rocksmith 2014’s Guitarcade Brings Back The Minigame Mayhem

September 24, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Score Attack and Challenges modes add in to make the game even more fun. Also, ducks!

Ubisoft has shared a section of Rocksmith 2014 that’s going to keep feeling like a game, but I doubt even the more serious guitar students will complain. Guitarcade has been revamped with even more fun incarnations of the original’s voxel minigames, as well as some new ones. They’ve shared information on some of the games, as we recount below.

Ducks Redux is the Ducks game Ubi originally wanted to make. The new version allows you to move all around the fretboard to get at the ducks with all of the strings in the guitar.

Scale Racer is an arcade style racer where you learn the scale with the conceit of moving your guitar away from the cops. You can go ahead by hitting the right notes in advance, or time it at just the right moment to get the fuzz to crash chasing after you.

Gone Wailin’ lets you practice hitting the low and high notes, as you direct a character on top of a whale’s blowhole to move up and down, avoiding obstacles along an endless racer path. You can also collect items, and soft play will get you to hit those spots just right.

Most notably, Dawn of the Chordead has been brought back as Return to Castle Chordead. The most popular minigame has been expanded, with a kitschy story and cutscenes to boot. Learn your chords in a 90s style arcade rail shooterlike.

Aside from the minigames, Rocksmith 2014 has also revamped the Leaderboard with Challenges. The game will send you Challenges based on your performance, helping motivate you to keep playing.

Lastly, Rocksmith 2014 has reincorporated its rhythm game elements in as a game within a game. Score Attack will allow you to play it that way, if you are so inclined.

You can check out our prior coverage of Rocksmith 2014’s evolution into full-on learning software here and here, and the trailer below.
