Disney Forcing Devs To Tone Down Violence In Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order?

June 21, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

It’s a family friendly company.

EA has not had the best record for Star Wars related video game titles. The company managed to grab the partnership with Disney in order to oversee Star Wars related video game titles. With these games not doing as well as gamers had liked, there is one particular upcoming release that may have players ready to hit the marketplace and that’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This is the upcoming video game being developed by Respawn Entertainment, the same developers who had brought out the Titanfall series along with Apex Legends. Now that the next game is coming down the pipeline, we’re finding out that perhaps Respawn Entertainment had to reel in the violence before it ships.

When it comes to Star Wars, there was plenty of action throughout the cinematic movies. You have intense lightsaber battles and at times you even found some individuals losing limbs. For instance, Obi-Wan sliced off a hooligan’s arm when Luke Skywalker was being harassed at a bar, later we’ve seen Darth Vader slice off Luke’s hand which was replaced by a robotic replica. However, these moments are few and far between so while a new game is coming out, it shouldn’t be too surprising that there are not a ton of moments where our protagonist is slicing antagonist up.

Despite this, the upcoming game may have been a bit more violent then what we’re seeing now as Disney still has their say on the matter. Speaking to IGN, Justin Perez, the senior designer behind the game stated that humanoid characters would not be dismembered as Disney holds certain rules and guidelines about the violence shown. In the same article, there has been other examples with what’s allowed in terms of violence in franchise.

We’re certainly wondering just how much of control Disney had with the direction Respawn Entertainment attempted to take Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and if this would ultimately mean that any hope of a more mature storyline within the universe would be out of the question. For now, there is still plenty of buzz about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and I don’t think the lack of violence is going to sway gamers away from the title. We’re expecting the game to launch on November 15, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and lastly, PC platforms.
