PS4, Xbox One Partnership with AMD to Improve Company’s PC Performance

September 18, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

AMD expects its PC gaming rigs to perform better thanks to consoles.

AMD must be doing something right in the wonderful world of business, as both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be powered by the company’s chips. It’s a unique situation for the manufacturer to be in, but because of this next-gen hardware monopoly, VP Matt Skynner is confident that AMD will have an edge in PC gaming going forward.

"Because it's our architecture there, it's easier to port the games,” Skynner told Forbes. “And because they're first developed on our hardware, there should be a performance advantage. They should run better on our hardware."

By the end of the year, home consoles will essentially mirror PC architecture, which likely means that there will be great similarities between the three platforms. If your specific rig just so happens to be powered by AMD, you can expect to have an overall “better gaming experience.”

"Couple years ago when we saw how the console thing was gonna shake out, we thought how can we leverage this to a better Radeon gaming solution across other markets," he continued. "So if we can create that performance advantage on the PC, from a graphics point of view, then we can give our customers a better gaming experience and grow our market share."

AMD does expect the demand for both the Xbox One and PS4 to be met, but if you don’t end up with either box this fall, expect your current gaming PC with AMD components to run everything at a smooth frame rate and high graphical fidelity.
