Free-to-Play SingStar Reboot to be Revealed Next Month

September 16, 2013 by Stephen Daly

The game is being released this year.

Ever since moving to the free-to-play model with SingStar last year Sony has added 1.5 million players to the game and will discuss how the franchise has been rebuilt "from the ground up for the digital age" at the F2P Summit in October, GameSpot reports.

London Studio director Dave Ranyard will give a keynote address discussing the lessons Sony has learned since the switch and how they are applying those lessons to the series going forward. Ranyard commented:

"Phase One was to launch SingStar as an app pinned to the PS3’s cross media bar last October. Phase Two is a complete redesign and overhaul of the whole game structure and UI for the digital and F2P age, which is due for release later this year.”

The game is presumably being prepped for a PS4 release but may see a PS3 launch as well.

The F2P version of SingStar was launched in October, 2012 and allows players to try out some demo songs for free. However, gamers do need to fork out for access to the game's 3,000 track music library and must also supply their own microphone or PlayStation Eye camera.
