PS Vita TV Could Still Come West

September 13, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Down the road, the PS Vita TV could hit other markets.

PlayStation Vita TV, the $99 streaming device that will bring all your favorite Vita titles to the big screen, might still see life in Western markets. Rumors have been floating around after the console’s unveiling that only Japanese consumers will be able to experience the miniature piece of hardware, but president of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has assured consumers that anything is possible in the future.

“For people wondering about PS Vita TV outside Japan, we are just saying now ‘PS Vita TV releasing first in Japan,’” Yoshida Tweeted. “Stay tuned.”

The general public was unsure of a global launch due to the comments of Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House earlier this week. House confirmed that Sony has no plans at this time to release the PS Vita TV in Europe or the United States, but it’s possible that enough fan outcry could sway the company’s stance. If you’ve been paying attention to the recent next-generation console race, it doesn’t seem crazy for the PlayStation maker to listen to its community and work on getting Vita TV to other markets as soon as it’s possible.

If you’re interested in knowing a bit more about the new member of Sony’s family, the device has a slot for PS Vita memory cards and can play over 1,300 Vita, PSP, and PlayStation One titles. The retail price is 9,954 yen, but it does need a DualShock 3 controller (which is not included) to operate. A bundle containing the controller will be sold for 14,994 yen.
