Dragon Age: Inquisition Player Choices Could Cut off a Quarter of the Game

September 11, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Making particular choices can close off major portions of BioWare’s RPG.

Once again, player choice will play a major role in the upcoming Dragon Age game. BioWare is one of the best developers at creating a story, giving players a choice in that story, and allowing different pathways to be chosen before seeing the ending. The next-generation Inquisition is no different, and according to a new interview with RockPaperShotgun, almost a quarter of the game could be locked if specific decisions are made.

“Our goal is that it’s a significant amount, a fifth or a quarter or so, that’s showing some degree of exclusivity,” lead designer Mike Laidlaw said about the result of player choice. “And then you can layer on top of that a certain amount of stuff that you probably just won’t find. ‘Oh, you didn’t go east there. Wow. Well, you missed out on the big dragon carcass or what have you.’ That kind of stuff is good.

“I think that our goal, more than worrying about percentages, is that when I present a choice, or when my team presents a choice, to a player, our goal with Inquisition is that we honor that choice. This goes all the way to, ‘What are you importing into the world?’ If it’s something that we’re going to tackle at all, I want it to be significantly different.”

This is a game that’s seemingly pushing new consoles to their “breaking point,” so expect a great deal of content out of the holiday 2014 title. And if you just so happen to miss a fourth of the game, just remember that replaying it to see it all is always an option.
