Japan will receive a new, slimmed down PlayStation Vita with a bit of internal storage Oct. 10, and while it won’t be a dramatic change from what the rest of the world is currently being offered, the devices do look different. Instead of waiting around for the launch before doing a side-by-side comparison, two images have been discovered that show just what’s different with the sleekly designed follow-up to the original handheld hardware.
The initial report discussed how the new model will be just 15 mm in width, which is 20 percent smaller than the current model. It’s also shed 15 percent of its extra fat, as the device only weighs in at 219g. However, both of these factors are difficult to quantify in the above image (provided by NeoGaf). The LED screen (which is the one on bottom) looks to be a bit duller, and the start and select buttons are more circular than ever before. But the thing just doesn’t look that small compared to its older brother.
This next image, which was taken from a Japanese user’s Twitter account, once again shows a less impressive screen for the bottom Vita and the “Sony” label in the left corner. The size differential continues to be too difficult to actually see, so if you happen to already own a Vita, this doesn’t look like a significant enough change to invest in a new device. The North American release date is yet to be revealed, but with Sony pushing the Vita TV and a price drop, expect more on-the-go news in the coming weeks.
