The Elder Scrolls Online Not Originally a Console Game

September 6, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

It took a bit of convincing from Sony to get The Elder Scrolls Online to consoles.

The Elder Scrolls Online, which is a Bethesda-developed MMO set to launch in early 2014, wasn’t originally planned for release on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. At least, that’s according to SCEA VP of publisher and developer relations, Adam Boyes, who feels Sony was key in convincing the RPG studio to move this massive world and all of its quests to consoles.

"That game was never planned to come to consoles," Boyes said to Game Informer. "And we just kind of kept sitting with [Bethesda] and being like, 'Why not?'

"They're like, 'We're not planning it,'" he added. "And I'm like, 'Well, what if we built a plan that we could do that?'"

The game is also coming to the Xbox One, but Boyes is more than happy just to see it coming to platforms other than PC. Bethesda listened, and all Sony had to do was help make the idea seem just a bit more appealing.

"Knowing that a game's coming to console that was never going to come to console, that's the kind of stuff that is, like, 'Yes!' You know, hugely awesome," Boyes said.

Look to experience the MMO, which recently saw its subscription service detailed, next year.
