We’ve heard about the Halo TV series for a good while now. The development was announced after we’ve seen rumors to the eventual downfall of the movie adaptation. However, since its announcement, production is still moving forward with the series. One slight setback was the director placement as the previous director, Rupert Wyatt, stepped down from production and allowed Otto Bathurst to pick things back up in order to keep the ship sailing. Of course, with that said, there’s still plenty of unknowns with this project, but now we have some new information as to why Rupert Wyatt decided to quit the project altogether.
Really, there’s nothing scandalous to reveal or bad blood, at least according to the statements given by the director. Rupert Wyatt directed the 2011 release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 2014’s The Gambler. He was originally all set to direct the Halo TV series but as the project evolved and became more ambitious the time that would have kept Rupert away from other projects grew. Speaking with Collider Quick, the former director stated the Halo TV series simply kept him away from other projects due to how the series evolved over time and as a result, he had to step down and hand the reigns over to someone else.
That someone else is, of course as mentioned, Otto Bathurst, who directed an episode for Black Mirror, Hysteria and the 2018 film, Robin Hood. This Halo series is set to release on Showtime and will have nine episodes though what the story will entail remains to be seen. We’ve heard past statements of this series being respectful to the franchise that is already established, but as of who will be taking the lead or where it lines up with the video games is anyone’s guess. For all we know, this series could take place prior to the events of Halo: Reach.
