Review Roundup: Another Anime-Based Title That Misses the Mark

March 13, 2019 by Jordan Biazzo

Planning on picking up the game this weekend?

Bandai Namco’s latest title to release is set to be their anime-based game One Piece World Seeker, but how does it hold up you may ask?

Publisher Bandai Namco is super active in the anime based-video game genre, but it seems as of late, that nothing is going their way. With the huge amount of hype and excitement around Jump Force, it seemingly fell flat on its face come release time.

Now it looks like One Piece World Seeker is following suit. However, it’s not in such bad condition. It seems that World Seeker has some great potential and a decently rounded story, but when it comes to the gameplay mechanics and sidequests, the game completely falls apart.

Down below are some of the most respectable gaming sites in the industry, check out the highlights for their reviews on One Piece World Seeker down below:

It looks great and the story is decent, but One Piece World Seeker’s 20 hours of one-note combat and repetitive, misleading quests aren’t worth suffering through.

Overall, despite the occasional combat snag or nagging disappointment I couldn’t play as Franky, One Piece: World Seeker absolutely shocked me with how good it is. It’s a massive, familiar, comfort food sort of open world game, that just happens to have the upbeat vibe, wacky characters, and bright colors of One Piece powering its engine.

One Piece: World Seeker is a solid attempt at an open-world licensed anime game but the same attention to world building isn’t applied to its gameplay to craft something that’s truly memorable.

Japanese developer Ganbarion has put together one hell of a game, certainly the most ambitious ever created for the One Piece franchise. I’ve played Monkey D. Luffy in fighting games countless times, and I’ve never connected with the character nearly as much as I have just running through the green grassy hills of One Piece: World Seeker.

One Piece World Seeker set to release on March 15th for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Are you excited about the upcoming anime-based title? Let us know in the comments below!
