PBS Game/Show Discusses the Unwavering Popularity of Mario and Link

August 29, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

A weekly show discussing video games and their cultural relevance.

Some iconic video game characters never lose their relevance as generations of people grow old and new generations emerge. Impressively enough, most of video games notable characters come from Japanese developer, Nintendo. PBS Game/Show will continue to discuss just why characters like Mario and Link remain culturally relevant years after their debut.

A character like Mario first became an iconic figure because of the time that he appeared. When video games first started entering homes, people latched onto Mario as their mascot for video games. But as explained in the above video, Mario's popularity extends beyond his convenient appearance and relates more the story structure people automatically resonate with.

Jamin Warren from Kill Screen writes PBS Game/Show and will continue to examine other topics within video games every Tuesday on his YouTube channel. The above video marks the show's debut which he promises will go on forever and ever.
