Shadow of the Eternals Falls Short of Funding Goal, Develoeprs Not Giving Up

August 26, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The latest Kickstarter campaign has failed to reach half of its funding goal.

At this point, it seems like people just don’t want to see Shadow of the Eternals come to fruition. After multiple failed funding campaigns and a recent attempt at a re-launch, Precursor Games has fallen short of its Kickstarter goals once again. Ending at just $323,950 of its $750,000 goal, the 5,932 people who backed the project will now get a full refund for a game that’s looking to be too difficult to get off the ground. Even after being turned away on multiple occasions, the team is doing everything but giving up.

"It is unfortunate that we were unable to crowd-fund this project at this time, but we have not given up," Precursor Games said in a statement on the official Kickstater page (via GameSpot). "We intend to pursue other avenues with the ultimate goal of having our games come to fruition."

If you ask almost any fan of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem if they’d like to see a spiritual successor to the GameCube project, you’ll likely an empathic “yes.” But the Precursor Games team just can’t garner enough support or trust to move forward with the title, so the next step might be to look for a publisher willing to supply the cash. Shadow of the Eternals was scheduled to launch by October 2014 on PC and Wii U, and while it’s unlikely that this particular release date will be met, expect to hear more about the troubled game down the road.
