Splinter Cell Blacklist Comparison Finds It Performs Best On Wii U

August 26, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Gaming site Lensoftruth compares Wii U, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 versions.

Gaming site Lensoftruth put Splinter Cell Blacklist up for comparison across the currently available consoles, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. Overall, they have found that the game looks best on Nintendo’s  fledgling console.

Now, before I rundown the differences, it may interest you to know the settings used. RGB Full Range was set to full, with Super White On. For the Xbox 360, Reference Level is at Expanded and HDMI Color Space was set to RGB. Lensoftruth believes each system matches each other at the source level, and contrast/gamma settings were not changed, in consideration of fact that these settings vary across different TV and monitor displays.

In terms of performance, all three consoles had frame rate fluctuations, but did not deviate from 30 FPS that much. The Wii U version managed to keep this rate without and screen tearing, in comparison to the Playstation 3 (at over 21 torn frames) and Xbox 360 (at 17 torn frames).

In terms of load times, the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions were close to each other, averaging 53 seconds and 50 seconds respectively, while the Wii U lagged behind at an average of 96 seconds. It should be noted that the Playstation 3 version requires a 3.5 GB mandatory install that lasts 20 minutes. The Xbox 360 also has an additional disc, apparently for higher definition graphics.

Finally, they conclude that the Wii U provides the best performance. The 30 second gap the Wii U version has in load times compared to its competitors is made up for by the lack of screen tearing. The Wii U also gamely matched the Playstation 3’s performance, after that console required an install.

While this comparison is hardly definitive, this should draw attention to the merits of the Wii U. It’s also worth noting that the gap between Wii U and other 7th generation technology consoles is not that high. Expectations remain high for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

If you don't mind the load times, you can check out the screenshots straight from the source below.
