Cerny: Multiplatform Games More Responsive, Attractive on PS4

August 22, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

It’s not all about exclusive titles in the eyes of Mark Cerny.

The PlayStation 4 is the clear frontrunner when it comes to independent games, which was a component to the Sony strategy on full display during its Gamescom press conference. However, when you look at big, AAA exclusives, Microsoft seems to be in the lead. Games like Dead Rising 3, Forza 5, and Project Spark are just the tip of the software iceberg, but lead PS4 architect Mark Cerny knows that it’s not just about platform-limited titles. He’s confident that the multiplatform games will not only look better on the PS4, but also play smoother.

“I believe an underappreciated aspect of what's going on is that PlayStation 4 is the world's most powerful games console, and I think that is going to become increasingly apparent as time goes by,” Cerny said in an interview with The Verge. “Even if titles are multi-platform, if the game experience is more responsive or more visually attractive on a certain platform, it definitely does play into the overall success.”

He also has confidence that the console will have the biggest and best launch lineup of all time, so really, Cerny is sure that the software side of the box has been nailed down. With that Nov. 15 launch quickly approaching, expect to hear more bold statements from both sides in the coming months.
