Dying Light Gameplay Runs For Its Life

August 15, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

The first gameplay trailer for Dying Light.

Techland, the developer behind the Dead Island series, announced Dying Light during this year's E3. While the studio only released a CGI trailer alongside the announcement, the idea of a parkour, zombie survival game sounded like perfect mixture. The below video represents Dying Light's first gameplay appearance where you will see the player run, jump and climb over both structures and zombies.

While still using Dead Island's first-person melee combat, Dying Light puts a larger focus on traversal of the environment and escaping situations with too many zombies. Still armed with a weapon, you can still kill any zombies traveling alone that end up blocking your way. When surrounded, climbing up telephone poles or scaling the side of a building will put you in a more advantageous and safer position.

The trailer also explores a day and night cycle changes the behaviour of zombies and reduces your ability to scout the environment. As the darkness covers your surroundings, the reduced visibility eliminates the opportunity to map out paths when looking into the distance. Improvised paths will ultimately lead you into situations where you will encounter the more aggressive zombies of the dark.

Dying Light will release on both current and next generation platforms in 2014.
