Monolith Might be Developing a New Lord of the Rings Game

August 15, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor trademarked.

Kotaku's Superannuation has revealed that a brand new Lord of the Rings game might be in development at Guardians of Middle Earth developer Monolith.

A LinkedIn CV Amazon Game Studios' Anton Bogaty mentions a "Lord of the Rings (AAA game)" while Monlith were hiring in May for a "large AAA quality product shipping on Next-Gen and Current Gen platforms simultaneously".

Notably Monolith's unannounced title is an open world, quest-driven adventure which could be a format very well suited to Tolkien's world.

Also noted is that fact that The Saul Zaentz Company, which owns several Lord of the Rings properties, recently registered a trademark for Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Presumably the game, whatever it ultimately proves to be, will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
