Sony Executive Feels The Demand Is Still There For Single-Player Video Games

December 10, 2018 by Dennis Patrick

More exciting single-player games coming from Sony in 2019?

We’ve seen a trend lately within the video game industry. More game developers are aiming to provide an online multiplayer experience with support being provided through the means of passes and microtransactions. For instance, with the Call of Duty franchise there is normally a single-player campaign mixed with various online game modes for multiplayer but with the latest release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the development team dropped the single-player component completely. While we don’t think the trend will be dropped anytime soon, one Sony Executive believes the demand for great single-player video game titles is still present.

Speaking with MCVUK Magazine, Warwick Light who is SIE Europe VP and Managing Director spoke of the need for single-player video game titles. Looking back at the 2018 year, Warwick stated that it was a great year for Fortnite but it was still a fantastic year for single-player titles. Sony saw the release and hype surrounding God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, and Astro Bot.

“There’s still a huge audience for games that offer the best in single player narrative with stunning gameplay, as witnessed by the enormous popularity of both Spider-man and God of War in this year’s charts. I was just at the Golden Joysticks – God of War won five!”

For now, it seems that Sony doesn’t want to see a change completely with their single-player video game titles releases. However, when it comes to the future of the company, we already know that the Sony name won’t be one thrown around very much during the E3 expo of 2019. In the past, it was revealed that Sony would be skipping the expo as Warwick also made mention of the decision in the interview with the magazine publication.

During the interview, Warwick stated that Sony is always looking to change up ways to introduce new products to gamers. Unfortunately, there is no word as to what Sony has planned yet but at the very least, it looks like 2019 will prove to bring back even more fantastic single-player adventures with reveals possibly done earlier than the usually E3 expo conference.
