Wii U Development Not in Bethesda’s Sights Due to Hardware Limitations

August 7, 2013 by Stephen Daly

‘It’s not on our radar.’

The Wii U could probably do with a little love but Bethesda has reiterated that Nintendo's console won't be seeing any games from the company soon.

Bethesda's vice president of PR and marketing, Pete Hines, told Joystiq "None of the games we've announced are being developed for the Wii U, so it's guaranteed that none of those games are coming to Wii U. Will any future ones come out? I can't say for sure, in our near-term focus it's not on our radar."

Hines explained that Bethesda's decision not to back the system is a result of technical limitiations rather than sales.

"It's largely a hardware thing," he said, adding that it was Bethesda's goal to "make the games that we want to make, on whatever platforms will support them as developed."

As an example, he said The Elder Scrolls Online "likely would have" been released on Xbox 360 but that it "just wasn't possible" because of the hardware.

Regarding the Wii U specifically he commented that "it remains to be seen what the future holds."

Both EA and Ubisoft, which were initally strong proponents of the system, have backed away as sales have hindered their investment in the console.
