The Walking Dead: The Final Season Officially Back In Development

November 21, 2018 by Dennis Patrick

Development begins again for The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

When Telltale Games announced that the studio was closing up, they were in the middle of developing The Walking Dead: The Final Season. Arguably, The Walking Dead was their most successful video game series where gamers all over the world followed closely as the years went on and more installments released into the market. Before the release of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, Telltale Games announced that this installment would the last release for their heroine Clementine though, after the second episode released from this episodic adventure, development was halted.

There was no word on if this game would be picking back up despite the studio closing and at the time, Telltale Games pulled the title from digital marketplaces which meant that players who did not already purchase the game would lose out on the chance of the first two episodes. Luckily the panic for fans of the series didn’t last too long as Telltale Games along with Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead, made note that they were seeking out a way to continue on with the game development.

It’s been a ton of work logistically and legally to get us to a place where we’re able to roll up our sleeves and get to the actual work. After Telltale shut its doors, the game was, unfortunately, unable to be worked on and hence the release dates of Episodes 3 and 4 have been delayed. But, we’re excited to let you know that many of the talented, passionate team members who originally worked on the game are resuming development efforts today!

This didn’t last very long before Robert Kirkman’s company, Skybound, announced plans on hiring back Telltale Games developers to finish up their work with the game. In a recent update to the Skybound website alerted fans that they are back to work but as such, the final two episodes have been delayed. Regardless, we’re sure that there are plenty of fans excited over the news.
