Fallout 4 at QuakeCon? Don’t Count On It

August 2, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Why Bethesda probably won’t announce Fallout 4 at QuakeCon.

Fallout 4

As QuakeCon continues over the weekend, many fans are clamoring for news about id Software's upcoming projects, and Bethesda titles. Notably, Fallout 4 remains high on the list of games that people want to see announced at the event.

That being said, there's little chance that the game will be announced at the event, given that the focus of this year's QuakeCon is on the equally interesting Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Evil Within, and The Elder Scrolls Online, all of which are being given live demos at the event.

It's hard to see why Bethesda would want to override interest in those upcoming games by announcing a juggernaut like Fallout 4 at the event. In doing so, not only would they be putting a damper on announcements related to their other games, they'd also be cannibalizing their own PR and hype for these highly anticipated games. Consider the fact that Fallout is undoubtedly more popular than any of these games—or even any other game right now, for that matter—and you'll see why Bethesda has absolutely no reason to want to trot out their 50-ton game, which will only end up trampling everything else they're working to build.

Furthermore, the fact that they refuse to comment on the development of Fallout 4—not even to confirm that it is in fact in development—is proof that their marketing strategy involves not talking about Fallout 4 at all, at least not until the three aforementioned games they've confirmed to have in development are released.

At best, we can hope for a Fallout 4 announcement after the release of The Elder Scrolls Online and Wolfenstein: The New Order, the latter of which has been delayed to early 2014.

If you're placing bets on when they'll announce the game, E3 of 2014 would be a pretty solid bet.
