Mega Man Universe Is Cancelled

Some games are just not long for this world—and Mega Man Universe is one of them. 

Despite a strong appearance at last year's Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced today that the game has been canceled. The company did not provide any actual reasons for the game's cancellation other than cryptically citing "various circumstances." 

When Mega Man Universe was announced as a downloadable game last July, Capcom promised user-created levels and a strong emphasis on user creativity, putting the game very much in competition with Sony's Little Big Planet. Had the game not seen cancellation, players would have been able to play as a number of Mega Man characters, ranging from the classic to the contemporary. Players would've even been able to play as characters from Capcom's other games like Street Fighter and the goofy looking Megaman in the classic game's American box art. 

With the direction of Akito Ito—the father of Mega Man—the new Mega Man Universe was supposed to be an extension of his original concept and something made with  the fans of the series in mind.

We are sad to report that Mega Man Universe joins the ranks of Starcraft: Ghost, The SiN Episodes, Star Fox 2, Earthbound 64 and numerous other promising titles to never see the light of day. 

Poor Mega Man Universe. Poor us.
