GRID 2 announces community patch, return of Demo Derby

July 26, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Changes credited to player feedback.

Codemasters blogged today about two updates GRID 2 is receiving as a result of fan feedback: the return of Demo Derby for absolutely free and a community patch.

The demolition derby was a popular mode in the already feature-filled original GRID, and many fans were disappointed it wasn't included with the new game along with its new features. Codemasters went out of their way to point out that it was this outcry from the fans that prompted them to add it into the game for free.

The community patch adds extensive changes to the game's various modes. To incentivize people into playing the game, they're adding the amount of money and experience you get for participating in Custom Playlists. They will also add a Hardcore Playlist that takes out flashbacks and enables full mechanical damage.

The level cap has gone up from 30 to 99, and they are adding fastest lap times to the results screen. Maximum laps have been raised from 5 to 10 and the bonus for clean racing has been increased. Vetoing events have been tweaked so that you would need 51 % of the lobby voting with you to get a change approved. Microphones can be muted. You can display your country flag now and you'll get to choose from more custom liveries. Even the level-up graphic can be skipped with a button press.

Lastly, Codemasters promises they've fixed their anti-cheat system, and just to make everything level, will be wiping out the leaderboards soon.

Outside of the patch, Codemasters has fixed a save bug for Steam users, have made three cars available for free, and will be releasing two track packs soon, that will have two of the most requested tracks in them. Codemasters  really wants to keep fans happy and playing. Will you be trying out Demo Derby soon?
