Dark Souls 2 to Include Destructible Hidden Paths, ‘More Comfortable’ Co-Op

July 26, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The environmental destruction will have an impact on more than just the combat in Dark Souls 2.

Dark Souls 2 won’t benefit from the wave of hype that both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will likely bring, but that doesn’t mean that people aren’t foaming at the mouth to learn just another valuable nugget of information. The sequel will likely be one of the biggest titles in the first half of 2014, and thanks to a new interview with Dark Souls II Director Tanimura San by Click Online, we now have new information to report on the game’s combat and multiplayer offerings.

Destructible environments have been a bullet point for the development team during all this pre-release coverage, but the feature’s impact on the moment-to-moment action hasn’t really been discussed in too much detail. When asked about the new mechanic, the director confirmed that it’ll have an impact on both combat and exploration.

“It is developed in that direction. A hidden route explored only by a precise enemy attack is one of the examples,” he said.

The cooperative nature of Dark Souls 2 has also been a big topic of interest. In the past, the Souls series hasn’t allowed players in the same world to communicate through anything but cryptic gestures. While voice chat hasn’t been confirmed, the more accessible Covenants will allow for a smoother online experience.

“The upgraded Covenants and the dedicated game server will offer deeper and more comfortable Co-Op and invasions,” Tanimura San said.

Dark Souls 2 will be an experience “unique for all" players, and while there’s been talk of the game being more accessible to newer players, fans should be prepared to die all over again sometime next year.
