Xbox One to Outship Cheaper PS4, Says Analyst

July 23, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The Xbox One’s price could also drop pretty early in the game, too.

Just last month, it seemed as if Microsoft’s Xbox One was the most vile, unappealing piece of hardware to ever be announced. At least, that seemed to be the console’s narrative if you happened to pay attention to forum posts, message boards, and a few sensational headlines. However, a full reversal on the DRM and online check-in policies has seemingly changed more than a few peoples’ minds on the issue. Plenty of onlookers have been holding the PlayStation 4 on a tall pedestal, but a new report by a trusted analyst states that Microsoft’s box may outship the competition at launch by a 3-to-1 ratio.

This speculation comes from Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian, who points to the Xbox One’s new policies when discussing its likely advantage over the PlayStation 4.

"Despite losing the headline battle at E3, Microsoft's Xbox One appears to be regaining some momentum, in part due to the used and online policy tweaks," Baird said during an investors note. "Importantly, our supply chain checks suggest Microsoft may have the benefit of a 2-3x unit advantage at launch compared to Sony's PS4."

One of the biggest hurdles the console will face is the $100 difference between the price of the PlayStation 4. However, Sebastian claims that Microsoft is "working with channel partners to less the gap," but that’s likely something we won’t see until months after launch. Still, it’s shocking news to hear after knowing the journey the Xbox One has already taken up to this point.
