Joss Whedon's much loved but short lived sci-fi series Firefly is finally making a return of sorts with the announcement of Firefly Online for mobile devices.
The game is set to be released next year and you signup now over at keepflying.com. The game was revealed today in the short trailer above at San Diego Comic-Con and attendees can visit booth 3249 to get their hands on the game.
Firefly Online is being developed by QMXi and Spark Plug Games and sees players take on the role of a ship captain who needs to recruit a crew, perform missions and trade with other players.
Matt McMahon, vice president of mobile for Fox Digital Entertainment, said "We are thrilled to be partnering with QMx on Firefly Online. QMx has a long and successful history with Firefly and we couldn't think of a better partner to make a truly innovative game that will stand up in the Verse and to its passionate fans."

It has always been our missions to bring the Verse to life for our customers in every way possible. The idea of creating an interactive experience where fans can have their own Firefly adventures – well, that's just too shiny for words."
Fox cancelled Firefly after a single season in 2002 but Whedon was able to revive it for a one-off movie, Serenity. With the success of Whedon's Avengers Assemble and the release of the game he may have another shot at rebooting the series – we can always hope anyway.
