Ono says no budget for Street Fighter V, Ultra Street Fighter IV PC/Xbox 360/PS3 only

July 16, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Confirms no plans for Wii U port as of now.

Yoshinori Ono made successive tweets in reply to fans setting expectations for Ultra Street Fighter IV and the possibility of a Street Fighter V.

I don't have R&D budget and staff who they're just only make USF4.RT @MC_Odd: @warmlettuce Are you secretly working on a SF V for next gen?

— Yoshinori Ono (@Yoshi_OnoChin) July 15, 2013

First off, in response to a question whether they are working on Street Fighter V in secret, Ono explains that they don't have the budget, R&D or other resources to make a Street Fighter V. Ono also points out any potential Street Fighter V programmers are busy working on Ultra Street Fighter IV.

PS3/360/PC at this moment. Thanks 😀 RT @warmlettuce: will Ultra Street Fighter IV be available on the new Playstation/Xbox systems?

— Yoshinori Ono (@Yoshi_OnoChin) July 15, 2013

so sry, we don't have plan for Wii U now… RT @FrostySphincter: No Wii U? That's a shame 🙁

— Yoshinori Ono (@Yoshi_OnoChin) July 15, 2013

Ono then says that the game will be coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC for now, and he expressly points out that they have no current plans to release to Wii U. He did not address any questions as to whether the game could come to either 3DS or Vita, but, really, he doesn't confirm that the game will be coming to PS4 or Xbox One either.

So it seems that Ultra Street Fighter IV will mostly be another update to Street Fighter IV, releasing only on the consoles that SF IV has already been released to. We do know that Capcom has been having financial challenges as of late. While they may be taking a calculated risk with Deep Down, they have been lowering sales projections for games like Resident Evil 6, usually expected to be system sellers, and are in the middle of corporate restructuring. There has also been previous news that they've been cutting down on future game production, and are even lowering down digital rereleases of their fighting games.

I'm personally still excited for Ultra Street Fighter IV, but can't help feeling regrets about Capcom's current financial situation and how its affecting this and their other projects. Hopefully they can do better in the next financial year so that Ono can expand the game's reach even further.
