LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 NYCC 2017 First-Impressions: An Expansive Sequel Brimming With Characters, Story, and Charm

LEGO

LEGO Marvel Superheroes was one of the best LEGO games ever made. It created such smart ways to integrate Marvel characters into a giant epic storyline that had me surprisingly engaged the whole way through.

LEGO games are somewhat on a formula basis as of late, but Superheroes manage to break the mold ever so slightly by giving players a giant open world to explore, a story well-written to care about, and loads of characters to choose from.

From the look of it, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 wants to up the ante even further. The game is looking bigger in every which way. The world, story, and new characters – all of it looks 10x bigger and that’s awesome.

This time around, the main villain will be Kang the Conqueror, a supervillain from the 40th century with some crazy abilities from the future. Kang has merged worlds together looking to conqueror everything. So this is how our crazy and the wonky story brings everything together. Time periods will merge bringing new characters and old characters together and mashing them across 18 open world sections. Players will see New York, Medieval time periods, Ancient Egypt – the whole lot.

TT Games had to go all out on this title because, by the look of it, Superheroes 2 is filled with deep Marvel characters that the common fan won’t know. Just by looking at the character screen, fans should expect to see loads of characters come the release of this game. They’ve also mentioned that due to the storyline of the game, players will be crossing into different time eras of Marvel history meaning players will be playing old characters, iconic characters, and even new characters. A neat little feature they added is that every character has a little synopsis of who they are and when they first appeared. This is a great touch for all those heroes and villains most players won’t know about.

The gameplay is your standard run of the mill stuff when it comes to LEGO games. Combos, special attacks, team-ups. There all present here, and even though the gameplay feels snappy and quick with smooth motions, I can’t help but not think its anything special anymore. Not saying its bad in any way, its just you know what to expect from gameplay in a LEGO game and that’s exactly what you get.

The game is looking promising so far, will it be better than the original? Time will have to tell, but TT Games are managing to grab my attention with its huge roster and crazy story.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 is set to launch for the PS4 and Xbox One on November 14. Are you excited for the sequel? Let us know in the comments below!
