Nintendo Download for 4th of July

July 4, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Freefall into featured Wii U Virtual Console game Pilotwings.

It's the 4th of July and Nintendo has unveiled this week's downloadable games and discounts for the occasion!

Featured are Pilotwings (Wii U Virtual Console, $ 7.99) and Sonic Drift 2 (3S Virtual Console, $ 3.99). Pilotwings on the SNES was a surprise hit, as trying to pass all the air flight tests turned out to be unexpectedly addictive. Sonic Drift 2 on the Game Gear was a take on Mario Kart on the portable, allowing you to race as Sonic and friends to collect the Chaos Emeralds.

On sale are Mighty Switch Force! (3DS, $ 3.99) and Hyperdrive Edition (Wii U, $ 6.67), Order Up!! (3DS, $ 4.99) and Planet Crashers (3DS, $ 4.99) Mighty Switch Force! is Wayforward's wonderful puzzle platformer, which has you playing as Patricia Wagon as she tracks down and collects the Hooligan Sisters. Hyperdrive edition offers HD graphics, Off-TV play and the Hyper Mode levels. Order Up!! is a cooking simulator emphasizing time management and multitasking, and is an enhanced port of the Wii original. Planet Crashers is a stripped down action RPG with a science fiction theme.

New are Vampire: Master of Darkness (3DS Virtual Console, $ 4.99), G-LOC Air Battle (3DS Virtual Console, $ 3.99), Deer Hunting King ( $ 4.99, 3DS), Fishdom H20: Hidden Odyssey (3DS, $ 4.99), and the Crazy Construction demo. Master of Darkness on the Sega Master System is essentially a Castlevania clone, with you playing as a Van Helsing-type character named Dr. Social.  G-LOC Air Battle was originally an arcade air combat game, but what you'll be getting here is the Game Gear port, which will allow you to upgrade your jet. Deer Hunting King is another gallery hunting game for the 3DS promising AR functionality. Fishdom H20 is a hidden object game. Crazy Construction is a mildly intimidating Tetris style stacking puzzle game. With the demo, you can now get a free try to see if you will enjoy it enough to make buying the game worth it.

Nintendo of America hasn't really prepared anything July 4th related this week, but you can still get some great deals on some fun little games. I imagine it'll be great fun going freefall on Pilotwings in particular.

If PS3 and the Vita's more your thing, Sony's unveiled their deals for PS Plus earlier in the week.
