For the first time since NHL 97, NHL 14 will feature a goalie on the cover of the game. In a duel between New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur and Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, the fans voted to put Brodeur for this year's NHL release.
In a bracketed matchup of players voted on by the fans, two goalies made it to the finals for the NHL 14 cover. When EA calculated the votes, Martin Brodeur – the 41 year old Montreal native – accumulated the most fan votes from both Twitter and the EA Sports website.
In a video expressing his gratitude for winning the NHL 14 cover, Brodeur explained that during course of the voting process he over accumulated 22 million fan votes.
Admittedly, Brodeur said he did not play video games, but after winning as the cover athlete and the return of a NHL 94 classic control schemes, he remained open to giving the game a try upon release.
NHL 14 will release September 10th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
