Proteus Making the Jump to PS3, Vita This Fall

July 1, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The unique PC indie title is hopping on over to Sony platforms.

Sony’s support for independent developers is strong, evidenced by the handful of talented and creative developers that were playing their games on stage during the recent E3 press conference. Although there are still plenty of big, expensive first-party products in the works for the PlayStation brand, it seems as if the future of Sony will be greatly supported by the little guys. That trend will continue with Proteus entering the family, a popular indie game making the move to PS3 and Vita in the coming months.

If you don’t remember, Ed Key and David Kanaga’s PC project is all about exploring a colorful, brightly painted world. Deep combat or building up your stats isn’t the goal – instead, players use sound and the environmental cues provided to learn more about the island they land. After four seasons, an ending is reached, but the breadth of content available is almost impossible to experience in one playthrough. It’s one of the most unique Steam games on the market, and the team behind the title is doing everything possible to make the procedurally generated fun even better on new platforms.

“Here at Curve we’ve been working with Ed to make the PS Vita and PlayStation 3 versions even better than the PC original and over the next few months we’re going to have more information on how we’re using the power of the PS3 and Vita to bring the absolute best Proteus experience to you guys,” the PlayStation Blog reads.

The game will be cross-buy compatible and launch sometime this fall, but that’s about all we know about the PS3 and Vita version of Proteus at this time.
