Battlefield 4: DICE Adding ‘Signature Multiplayer Elements’ to Single Player

June 28, 2013 by Stephen Daly

DICE looks to improve its single player offering.

Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine UK DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson revealed that there are "signature multiplayer elements we want in single player" for Battlefield 4.

"We want to give the player a choice," Troedsson said. "Do they want to go for the sneaky approach with a sniper rifle and a silenced pistol, or do they want to take a jeep and have the entire squad shoot at everything they see?"

In addition to the tactical option available to players, you'll also have the chance to command AI-controlled squadmates to provide covering fire while you flank an enemy turret, for example. The campaign levels are all said to be vast and open which makes a change from Battlefield 3's single player which and its focus on restristive corridors for large segments.

Bringing this all together is the Frostbite 3 engine and Troedsson comments "It's all about the human element. You can get very up close and personal with your characters – that's what we want to dig deeper into with Battlefield 4. This is one of the biggest places where Frostbite 3 comes into play."

Battlefield 4 is set to be released later this year for PS3, PS4, PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One with analysts predicting the game will sell 14 million units. The first DLC for the game, Second Assault, will be a timed Xbox One exclusive.

DICE has previously said Battlefield 4's campaign will serve as a demo for the title's multiplayer.

Apart from Battlefield 4 DICE are also developing the next entries in the Star Wars: Battlefront and Mirror's Edge franchises.
