Kickstater Launches in Canada This Summer

June 27, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

People can not begin Kickstarter in Canada.

With so many game developers based in Canada, it seemed like a very easy and obvious decision for Kickstarter to finally reach Canadian markets.

Any developers based in Canada (although they could previously use websites such as Indiegogo.com), can now launch projects for funding in Canada.

But it doesn't come as a coincidence that people can find developers like Ubisoft, BioWare and Rockstar in Canada. Due to the amount of revenue game sales generates and the amount of people a studio employs for production of a video game, the Canadian government embraces video game studios forming on Canadian soil.

Government tax breaks and financial grants provide a lot of incentive for developers as they assist both those already established and developers part of a team no larger than two members.  Phil Fish, a developer at Polytron Corporation, announced Fez 2 earlier this month. You will find Polytron Corporation in Montreal where they too took advantage of the Canadian government grants issued for game development.

Kickstarter did not specify a date for when Canadian funding will become available but expect sometime this summer.
