Just Add Waters Wants to Remake Metal Gear Solid

June 27, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The Oddworld studio has written a letter directly to Kojima.

Eventually, we’re going to see another remake of the now-classic Metal Gear Solid. We have both the PlayStation title and GameCube’s Twin Snakes to hold close to our hearts, but as we’ve heard from Kojima himself, people want to see that original game running on the FOX Engine. But with Konami and Kojima Productions hard at work on The Phantom Pain, it might take another studio to make this dream a reality. That studio could be Just Add Water.

After word came out that a re-release of Metal Gear Solid was possible, Kojima Tweeted the below request to any passionate developers with a love of the series.

Well, if there's some creator or team in this world who has love and passion to remake "MGS1", I would love to ask for it.

As you’d guess, the call didn’t go unanswered for long. Just Add Water, the creative studio responsible for the remake of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and the upcoming Abe's Oddysee remake Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, quickly posted a statement (discovered by GameInformer) on its official website. Here’s Stewart Gilray’s plan:

Dear Mr Kojima,

We read with great excitement on VG247 that you were looking for a studio to work with to develop a Metal Gear Solid remake using the Fox Engine, that your team has been hard at work creating.

We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons

1. We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves.

2. Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material.

3. We really, really want to do it.

For evidence of our abilities, please check out not only the HD treatment of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, released on PlayStation3, VITA and PC, but the current re-creation of Abe’s Oddysee, titled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty.

We eagerly await your response.

Love and cuddles,

The JAW Team.

Not too bad, huh? It might not be the development match that first comes to mind, but it sure as hell is an interesting one. If you just so happen to back this move, it might be worth letting all parties involved through the wonderful world of Twitter.
