BioShock Infinite DLC Status Discussed by Ken Levine

June 26, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Levine has issued an update on the BioShock Infinite DLC.

When’s the perfect window for DLC to launch? We constantly hear complaints about DLC coming too soon after a game’s release, giving people the impression that the content was removed from the core experience in order for the publisher to make a quick buck. However, the gaming community has also expressed distaste for DLC that launches too many months after the actual game, which might just be the case for BioShock Infinite. This massive blockbuster was both a critical and commercial success, but other than a leak of the Achievements and a mention of a new companion character, little has been said about the additional content since the game’s March release.

Irrational Games’ Ken Levine hears the fans and their desires for more, but game development isn’t easy. As of right now, the status is still unclear.

“DLC Update: We are working on it – have been since the game shipped,” Levine Tweeted today. “Things are going well, but please understand: game development takes time.”

And that just might be where the disconnect between the developer and consumer occurs. For those who spend their free time playing games, the content-creation process just seems like magic. A group of people behind the scenes punch a few numbers into a computer, and poof, a game is made. However, even DLC that works off of an existing engine takes a great deal of time to make its way onto PSN, XBLM, or Steam. We’ll just have to continue being patient, and trust that Irrational knows a thing or two about making great games.
