PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate Vita, PC and Mac Bound

June 25, 2013 by Stephen Daly

The game will launch on Vita first.

Double Eleven, the developer of some of the Vita's biggest tittles including LittleBigPlanet and Limbo, are set to bring PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD to the handheld with the help of Q-Games. After its release on Vita the game will then make its way to PC and Mac.

PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD will see the well received 2008 original from PSN come to the Vita and will include some of Double Eleven's own innovations on Q-Games' tower defence game. The Vita version will include all DLCs such as the Encore Level Pack and will also feature touch controls and a unique set of Vita trophies.

Double Eleven, which officially split from Sony X-Dev last week, will continue to work on new IP while it develops the PixelJunk port though it's unclear when those titles will emerge.

Explaining the decision to come to Vita first studio founder Lee Hutchinson commented "We work with Shahid [Ahmad, who leads Sony's indie push in European markets] in London, and to a certain extent if we go to Vita first we can get funding from Sony. We've got the code base so it's easy for us to get the game running on it. Sony get a small exclusive window on it, so they're happy, we get funded, so we're happy. The exclusive window is only ever implied, and it's never contractual. It's always shorter than you could get another version out anyway."

Hutchinson also revealed that LittleBigPlanet on Vita was initially intended as a port of LittleBigPlanet 2 but the project grew in scope as it was in development.

The game is set to debut on Vita later in the summer with the PC and Mac versions coming afterwards.
