Nordic Games Purchases Desperados and Silver from Atari

June 24, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Nordic Games isn’t done picking up IP.

The emergence of Nordic Games may be one of the most peculiar stories of the year. The Swedish-based video games publisher was virtually unknown until it acquired Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs ATV, and a few other IP for $4.9 million from the now-defunct THQ. It was an out-of-left-field move from a player most of us didn’t even know about, but according to recent news, Nordic Games isn’t yet done picking up existing IP from struggling publishers.

Nordic has confirmed that it’s signed and closed an asset purchase agreement with Atari for two of its intellectual properties, which include Desperados and Silver. What are these two names, exactly? Both of the Desperados games can be described as stealth-based, real-time tactics PC games, developed by Spellbound and released in 2001 and 2006. Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive and Desperados 2: Cooper´s Revenge both take place in a Wild West setting, where protagonist John Cooper does most of his talking through his guns and knives.

Silver, on the other hand, was released in 1999 as an action RPG for PC, Dreamcast, and Mac. Developed by Infogrames, the game follows a young warrior named David as he quests to retrieve his wife from the grip of the terrible villain, Silver. The game allows the player to take control of multiple party members as David makes his way to his love’s place of holding.

If you’re interested in either project, Nordic has opened its forums to any and all fans of these IP in order to get advice on development.
