Deep Down Image Released by Capcom Producer

June 19, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

This third-person photo is the first we’ve seen of Deep Down in a while.

One of the most visually stunning games that Sony rolled out during the initial PlayStation 4 reveal was Capcom’s Deep Down. The dark action title showcased a beautiful fantasy setting being powered by the studios’ next-generation Panta Rhei engine. The first-person perspective and wonderful use of lighting had people talking, but a new image has appeared that showcases a third-person scene.

Yoshinori Ono, a producer Capcom, posted the picture of himself play testing the product. According to Ono, some good progress has been made.

“We make steady progress for developing "deep down" on PS4!” Ono Tweeted.

The above picture was also attached to his post, which shows a cavernous locale that’s quite similar to what we saw a few months ago. As stated previously, the gameplay looks to be in third-person, which seems to follow that talk that Deep Down will switch perspectives from time to time. How that will be used to enhance the gameplay experience, though, is still unknown.

The story surrounding the game is pretty simple from what we’ve heard. The player takes on the role of an adventurer who delves deep into a dragon's lair in order to slay it, and through the PS4’s social functionality, this brave soldier has the option of asking for a bit of help.  It sounds similar to Dragon’s Dogma, another Capcom product. But instead of just making a sequel, Ono sees this new IP as a less-restrictive way of testing the PS4’s hardware.

"We wanted to be free to utilize the PS4's hardware capabilities and unique services without the constraints of working within an existing IP," Ono said.

It looks promising, but at this time, there’s no release window to discuss.
