Sony: E3 Press Conference Just One Good Day

June 17, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The PlayStation 4 hasn’t won any real awards quite yet.

Sony’s E3 press conference was bold. Instead of sitting back and ignoring the practices of its competition, the PlayStation-maker came out against the not-so-user-friendly practices of Microsoft in an uncharacteristic fashion. Used games, online check-ins, and even the steep price of the Xbox One were all countered by the PlayStation 4, but Sony understands that this is just the first step in a long, difficult road.

Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara was happy with his company’s performance at last week’s show, but told MCV that it can’t just pat itself on the back for the next few months. There’s plenty of work to be done if Sony wants to transform the gaming community’s good will into actual PS4s sold.

“Winning is determined by a much longer timescale,” he said. “We were very pleased with how our messages went down at E3. We aim to be the best for gamers, and this was a key step in that direction.

The talk of Sony winning the console war before it’s even begun might have been a bit hyperbolic, but if you happened to check Twitter during E3, the support for the PlayStation 4 over the Xbox One was pretty clear. However, we all know that one week doesn’t win such a hard-fought hardware battle.

“E3 is important for early momentum and generating pre-orders. But it is only one step along. We feel we had a good day but there is loads more hard work to do, and we are focused on that,” Gara continued.

Sony is focused on the future, and if the company continues to press Microsoft as the months go on, that future looks pretty bright.
