Minecraft Xbox 360 Saves Won’t Transfer To Xbox One Edition

June 14, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Minecraft on Xbox One is “a new product”.

UPDATE: Phil Spencer has commented on Twitter that Microsoft is working with 4J Studios to make the save files for Minecraft 360 transferable to Minecraft Xbox One Edition.

Just chatted to @PopsRamjet and we are still actually discussing it with @4jStudios! Stay tuned http://t.co/uQSfTj3KA8 @OXMUK @eurogamer

ORIGINAL STORY: Minecraft: Xbox One Edition was announced at Microsoft-s pre-E3 media briefing earlier this week and Microsoft Studios' president Phil Spencer has now revealed that saves will not be transferable between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of the game.

Spencer said Minecraft on Xbox One is "a new product" adding "We're actually updating it in pretty significant ways for the new platform. Bigger worlds, which don't translate between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One."

4J Studios, the developer of the Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of the game, has previously said that they're "discussing" the issue with Microsoft to make saves transferable which puts them at odds with Spencer's comments.

However, Minecraft on Xbox 360 will continue to be updated 4J has confirmed. Apart from the bigger worlds Minecraft on Xbox One will come with enhanced multiplayer support.

Back in March Telltale told IGN that they were working with Sony to make saves of The Walking Dead transfer from PS3 to PS4 and hopefully other developers in such a situation will be able to work something out for the next-gen versions of their game.

So far, BioWare has not said how or even if the saves from Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 will transfer to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Dragon Age Inquisition, the game is also being released on current and next-gen consoles and PC.
