Splice Coming Soon to PS3

June 12, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

The experimental puzzler is due in the next few months.

Sony went the extra mile during its press conference on Monday to show its support for independent developers like Supergiant Games, but it isn't stopping there. Despite the fact that a large proportion of the people working in and around the games industry are still in Los Angeles for E3, somebody has managed to find the time to announce on the PlayStation blog that Splice will soon make its way to PS3.

Nikkolai Davenport, a developer at Cipher Prime Studios, said that the team was “super excited and honored” to make the announcement. Splice is an award-winning game that was a finalist at IndieCade last year, an experimental puzzler with a unique style. You play the game by splicing cells to split them down paths until you've made a microbial shape that matches the outline you're given. Obviously, as the game goes on, the puzzles get harder and harder. There are more than seventy in total, and as you progress you'll have to experiment to learn how to use different types of nodes.

Davenport explains that a key focus in developing this game was in making it an immersive experience for players. This goal is backed up by a tranquil soundtrack from Dain Saint, and visual features like minimal text that fits with the aesthetic and a HUD that “disappears from the edges of perception”.

This single-player game will launch on the PSN around the end of summer or beginning of autumn, and might include Move support when it arrives.
