Sony Just Pulled a Red Wedding on Microsoft at E3

June 10, 2013 by Jacob Saylor

Sony just took Microsoft for a ride they won’t soon forget.

While Sony has made clear how they feel about Digital Rights Management in the past few weeks. Obviously, these have been – in some small way – little quips at Microsoft. Microsoft has shown that they want to take a chunk out of the used game market, but Sony has been steadfast in their march against DRM.

Things finally came to a boiling point during Sony's E3 press conference, where Jack Tretton essentially called Microsoft out on the world's stage. Tretton announced what Sony has been reaffirming for quite some time now – since Microsoft's Xbox One Reveal on February 20, in fact: that the Playstation 4 would support used games completely.

As the above screenshot indicates, gamers will be allowed to trade, sell, lend or keep their games forever. The thunderous applause reached through a less-than-stellar announcement that Playstation Plus will be required for online gaming, but we're willing to forgive that small sin in light of this amazing, unadulterated assault on Digital Rights Management.

Thanks, Sony.
